Oracle stock (ORCL) closed Wednesday at $144.54, up 10.73%, on volume of 79.1 million shares, about 161% above its three-month average. The move followed an investor day that gave the market the two things it has been asking debt-funded AI builders for all autumn, a date when cash flow turns positive and a ceiling on new borrowing.

Oracle stock gave some of that back on Thursday, trading at $142.95 in pre-market dealing, down 1.10%. The plan sets out when the cash arrives, and the gap between Wednesday’s promise and Thursday’s balance sheet is still four fiscal years wide.

Oracle Put Dates on the Cash Flow Turn and a Cap on New Raises

The investor day release targets fiscal 2030 revenue of at least $225 billion, a compound rate above 35% from fiscal 2026, with non-GAAP operating margin of 40% or more and non-GAAP earnings of at least $21 a share. Free cash flow is expected to turn positive in the second half of fiscal 2028 and reach $30 billion or more in fiscal 2029.

Capital spending peaks across fiscal 2027 and 2028 before stepping down in fiscal 2029, when Oracle expects growth to be self-funded and net debt to adjusted EBITDA to sit below 3.5 times, which is the sequence Oracle stock rallied on. Fiscal 2027 guidance was reaffirmed at revenue of at least $90 billion and non-GAAP earnings of $8.10. Co-chief executives Clay Magouryk and Mike Sicilia presented alongside chief financial officer Hilary Maxson, and the release carries no quotes from any of them.

The $20 Billion Cap Excludes Refinancing and Three Other Channels

Additional capital markets raises are limited to $20 billion across fiscal 2027 through 2030, split between $10 billion of equity and $10 billion of gross debt. That figure excludes refinancing of existing debt, and it comes on top of the $20 billion at-the-market equity raise Oracle completed in the first quarter of fiscal 2027.

Three further funding channels sit outside the cap entirely, and Oracle expects vendor financing, customer-provided hardware and customer prepayments to reduce the cash it needs upfront, none of which counts against the $20 billion. The credit market has not repriced on the news that moved Oracle stock, with the 2065 and 2064 maturities still yielding 8.48% and 8.42%, and the company rated BBB-, one notch above speculative grade.

Investor Takeaway

Oracle stock rose 10.73% on a cap that covers capital markets raises only, so vendor financing, customer hardware and prepayments remain available outside the $20 billion.

A $225 Billion Target Needs Revenue to More Than Triple by Fiscal 2030

Oracle reported $67.36 billion of revenue in fiscal 2026. Reaching $225 billion by fiscal 2030 requires compound growth of about 35.2% a year, and reaching it from the $90 billion already guided for fiscal 2027 requires about 35.7% a year across the three years after that.

Headcount is moving the other way, with Oracle employing 141,000 people at the last count, down 21,000 or 12.96% over twelve months, and generating $477,710 of revenue for each of them. Delivering $225 billion from a similar base would put revenue per employee near $1.6 million.

Alphabet Lost 10% the Same Night Oracle Stock Gained 11%

Three AI spenders were marked on the same evening and the market separated them by cash. Microsoft produced $18.6 billion of free cash flow in its fiscal first quarter, roughly $10 billion above expectations, while spending $45.2 billion on computing infrastructure and guiding Azure to the growth rate it had promised. Its shares rose more than 3% after hours. Alphabet burned $9.07 billion with capital spending heading toward $205 billion this year, and fell nearly 10%.

Melissa Otto, head of research at S&P Global Visible Alpha, contrasted Microsoft’s disciplined growth with Google’s cash burn. Microsoft and Alphabet were marked on cash already moving through the accounts. Oracle stock was marked on a timetable, and that distinction carries into December. The same pressure already runs through Meta’s $35 billion equity sale, the debt loads across AI data centers and Elon Musk’s warning on more than 200 AI cloud firms.

Oracle Stock Is Still 48.93% Lower Over Twelve Months

One session has not undone the year for Oracle stock, which is down 26.80% in 2026 and 48.93% over twelve months, and remains 13.15% lower over six months even after Wednesday. The five-day gain stands at 15.75% and the three-month gain at 17.64%, against a market value of $437.05 billion, a trailing price to earnings ratio of 20.47 and a beta of 2.61.

Fiscal second-quarter results are due around 14 December, the next hard test for Oracle stock, with consensus at $21.31 billion of revenue and $1.89 a share, and that print is the first test of the capital-spending path laid out on Wednesday. It arrives days after a Federal Reserve meeting that traders put at an 84% chance of a hike before Wednesday’s hold at 3.75% to 4.00% drew two dissents in favor of raising. Higher rates raise the cost of every channel Oracle left outside its cap.

Investor Takeaway

Oracle stock is pricing a cash-flow turn scheduled for the second half of fiscal 2028, so the December quarter and the fiscal 2027 capital spending peak arrive well before any of it is demonstrated.
